The Hungarian acacia honey is light, soft, not very acidic, with acacia flower scent. Its colour shades vary from neutral to slight yellow. Due to its higher fructose content, it maintains its liquid state for years without any crystallisation. This honey does not have a characteristic flavour, therefore it is recommended to anyone who is beginning to consume honey.
It is considered a Hungarikum. Hungarikum is a collective term indicating a product of distinction through qualification, classification and national registration. It gives the approval and represents the high performance of Hungarian people thanks to its uniqueness, speciality and quality.
The special property of acacia honey is that it soothes coughs thanks to its antiseptic effect. It is an excellent tonic for the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those recovering from illness or surgery. At the same time, it has a beneficial effect on the nervous system, helping to overcome fatigue. Acacia honey is effective in the treatment of excessive stomach acid and ulcers, and relieves stomach pains.
Acacia honey is easily utilized by our body, so we get energy sooner. It also contributes to strengthening our immune system. Acacia honey contains more than 400 substances, including vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, enzymes, flavonoids, phytohormones, aromatic compounds, organic acids (lactic acid, oxalic acid, citric acid, malic acid), dextrin, and nitrogen compounds.
Acacia honey is a perfect substitute for sugar, as it is rich in nutrients and antioxidants. Since it does not change the taste and aroma of drinks, acacia honey is a very good natural sweetener.

When we speak of the acacia tree we typically mean the white acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia), which is native to the eastern coast of North America.
Acacia is a medium-sized hardwood deciduous tree, that reaches a typical height of 12–30 metres (40–100 feet) with a diameter of 0.61–1.22 m (2–4 ft). It is a very upright tree with a straight trunk and narrow crown that grows scraggly with age. The dark blue-green compound leaves with a contrasting lighter underside give this tree a beautiful appearance in the wind and contribute to its grace. It tolerates drought and polluted air well, and binds sandy soil.
Acacia was first planted in Hungary at the beginning of the 18th century, and it didn't take a hundred years for acacia to conquer a huge space in Hungary. By 1885 it had already grown on 24.2 thousand hectares and after that there was no stopping it. In another hundred years this number increased tenfold and today the white acacia occupies about a quarter of the Hungarian forest areas (exactly 24%, 455 thousand hectares). Hungary has the largest acacia plantations in Europe.
Acacia is a heavy, hard and durable wood that can be used in many ways, from railway sleepers to furniture, tool handles and firewood. Its flowers can be used to make wine, and its decoction is good for soothing coughs.
Acacia is the surest mass-blooming honey plant. Although it blooms for a short time, it is ideally an abundant source of nectar. Acacia trees that are 11-20 years old are best able to produce nectar. 1 kg of acacia nectar becomes 0.5 kg of acacia honey. Roughly half of Hungarian honey production can be attributed to it, and acacia honey is exported in large quantities.
Hungary accounts for 10% of the EU's honey production, which means about 25,000 - 30,000 tons annually.
The average domestic demand is about 6,000 tons, so almost 80% of the production is exported.
There are 15,000 local beekeepers, who keep around 1 million bee colonies.
Hungary owns 2/3 of Europe's acacia forests, its annual production of acacia honey is 10,000 - 13,000 tons.
In 2021, Hungary was the third largest European natural honey supplier for the KSA with a share of 5.23% (4.55 million USD).
